Pets are an important part of your family, so it's essential that you provide them with the best health care. Similar to humans, pets can contract a variety of illnesses and ailments. These conditions can leave your pet feeling sick and lethargic, and if left untreated, they can result in serious complications. Common ailments that can affect dogs and cats include dermatitis and skin conditions, allergies, digestive issues, joint problems, infections, and organ failure. Dogs can be prone to a variety of diseases and illnesses because of their breed and genetic makeup, but it's also not uncommon for dogs to suffer from additional ailments as they age.

Providing your pet with quality veterinary care is one of the best things you can do for your pet when ill, but preventing illness is an even better way to keep your pet feeling well at all times. When you love your pet dog it’s important to choose a high quality pet food that is packed with protein and low on filler byproducts. This type of food will provide your pet with wholesome and satisfying meals throughout the day. Giving your pet plenty of exercise and socialization opportunities is also crucial for its health. But there is more that you can do in order to protect your pet from illness and help it develop a strong immune system. Even the most high quality pet foods will not meet all your pet's nutritional requirements. A pet nutritional supplement product will help fill in the nutritional gaps left behind by the food that you choose.

NuVet Plus is a supplement that has been engineered specifically to support the development of a strong immune system, provide extra support for the vital organs, and fight free radicals in the body that can cause disease and illness. NuVet Plus is a premier supplement product for pets that contains antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, natural herbs, and essential fatty acids. The natural ingredients in this supplement can help protect from free radicals, chemicals, and opportunistic organisms that can harm your pet. The antioxidants and amino acids in NuVet Plus can detoxify the blood stream, allowing the red blood cells to more effectively carry nutrients to the organs in the body. Essentially, this supplement product can allow the animal's body to function better and therefore defend itself against disease and infection.

However, listing off high-quality, natural ingredients are not necessarily enough. Pet parents should understand that it is these human-grade ingredients combined with a superior manufacturing process that allows NuVet Plus to be more effective. It can be easy for just anyone to throw together a variety of ingredients that include important vitamins and minerals, and call it a premier supplement product. However, the experts at NuVet Labs spent eight years researching and developing this supplement. It was truly an investment of time and effort in order to create the most effective supplement product for dogs and cats. Once the formula for NuVet Plus was perfected, a superior manufacturing process was developed. All NuVet Plus supplement products are created with human grade ingredients in an FDA registered laboratory using a cold processing technique that ensures the rich nutrients of the ingredients are passed to the pets and not wasted through cooking.

It is quite uncommon in the pet industry for a company to go to such great lengths during the manufacturing process. Most pet food and product developers do not utilize the same facilities that manufacture human pharmaceuticals. However, the pet experts at NuVet Labs believe that animals deserve the same superior care as humans. The investment of both time and resources provides pet parents with the reassurance that they need when choosing a health and nutrition product for their pet. This is a company that truly puts the well-being of pets above everything else.

NuVet Plus is recommended to pet parents by pet professionals, veterinarians and industry experts. This supplement product is safe and effective, and can help prevent the development of ailments and illnesses in pets of all ages. In addition, it can help pets fight off disease and infection, allowing them to heal and become healthier than ever before. NuVet Labs has been providing pet parents with the highest quality products since 1997. We proudly stand by our 60-day, 100 percent satisfaction guarantee, and we look forward to hearing feedback from all of our customers.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age, genetics and more. Many dogs and cats with allergies have greatly benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Much like humans, our canine and feline companions can suffer from a wide range of allergy issues that appear in the form of itchy skin, diarrhea, respiratory problems and ear infections.  Veterinary professionals estimate that one in seven dogs suffer from the same sensitivities to food, household toxins, common house dust, airborne pollens and other substances, as do their human caregivers.

Allergies are typically categorized in one of the following four ways:

• Flea allergy dermatitis – allergies to bites from fleas and other biting insects, and the most common canine allergy;

• Food allergies – allergies to certain medications and foods, such as wheat, corn and soy- common fillers in pet foods;

• Canine atopy – allergies to inhalants, such as dust mites, molds and pollens, which can develop into serious respiratory problems if left untreated; and

• Contact allergies – allergies to certain substances that have direct contact with the skin, which lead to swollen skin and surface lesions if the affected pet’s itching response is not relieved.

Symptoms

Allergies appear as a multitude of symptoms depending upon the dog or cat, and may be either an immediate or delayed response. Physical symptoms include but are not limited to, sneezing, watery eyes, fever, low energy, respiratory problems, and excessive itching, biting, hives, or scratching of the skin. Changes in behavior may include mood swings, or biting and skittishness in a normally docile pet. In severe cases allergies can even result in anaphylactic shock.

Complications

The danger of allergies lies in their nature: an allergic reaction is the body’s immune system fighting against pathogens.  If left untreated, allergies are extremely prone to further complications that can be costly and hazardous to your pet’s health.  A dog or cat with an otherwise healthy immune system is now left prone to a long list of diseases and infections.

Scratching, biting, and chewing are very common among allergy suffering dogs and cats.  Excess scratching can cause open wounds, bleeding, and possible infection.  Staphylococcal infections are among the most common, resulting from open sores and hot spots that are left to fester.  Yeast infections are also common, and typically occur in damper regions such as skin folds, ears, or between the toes.

Respiratory issues are a serious complication of allergies and are due to inhaling dust, pollen, and grasses. Reactions can occur in response to exposure to these irritants, or even tainted food. In turn, these reactions can develop into greater lung problems and sinus illnesses. Constant irritation from allergens can damage air sacs and blood vessels, causing greater strain on lung function and breathing ducts.  By treating allergies as soon as possible, serious complications can likely be avoided.

NuVet Plus

A dog or cat having a weakened immune response is more likely to develop allergies than a dog or cat in good immune system health. The immune system provides the first line of defense against invading potential allergens.

Providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants amino acids, herbs, and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system to help prevent the development of allergies. They also help to alleviate the symptoms and can help decrease the incidence of reactions associated with existing allergies.  Regularly exercising and grooming your pet also helps to keep their body healthy and their coat clean.

Supporting your pet’s diet with a high quality food containing essential protein will add critical nutrients to their bodies.  Equally important is providing food, that is low on grains, like corn and wheat as well as “meat by-products”. However, even a high quality pet food alone isn’t enough.  NuVet supplements are a vital component, helping fill the nutritional gaps to keep your dog or cat healthy.   It boosts internal defenses and provides critical nutrients to the blood, bones, and skin as well as supporting the vital organs to help prevent the damaging effects of free radicals. It starts with a healthy blood stream that transports the essential nutrients throughout the body, flushing out toxins and invading substances.

NuVet Plus® is a natural supplement made from the finest human-grade ingredients. It is formulated in an FDA registered laboratory which is used to produce human pharmaceuticals.  The use of this kind of high-tech superior quality manufacturing facility is especially uncommon in the pet industry, however NuVet Labs® knows that no greater value can be placed on our beloved four legged members of the family.

NuVet Plus® is guaranteed for purity, safety, and effectiveness. As one of the oldest and most respected companies in the pet industry, NuVet Labs® protects your purchase with a 60 day satisfaction guarantee. Please refer to our Guarantee for further details.

Not only will NuVet Plus® help fight allergies by creating a strong immune system, but it is a complete formula that will support your pet’s internal systems including the cardiovascular, circulatory, digestive, exocrine, endocrine, urinary, lymphatic, and skeletal systems.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few ingredients found in NuVet Plus® that may be particularly beneficial to your pet with allergies:

• Alfalfa – Alfalfa contains many of the vitamins, minerals, amino acids (especially tryptophan), digestive enzymes and protein that are necessary to a balanced diet, including Vitamins A, B-6, D, E, and K, beta-carotene, fiber and chlorophyll, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, potassium and several trace minerals. The alfalfa included in NuVet Plus® builds a strong and healthy body that easily resists attack by invading organisms that weaken the immune system and trigger allergic reactions. Considered a very nutritious herb, alfalfa is commonly used to alleviate certain allergic reactions, particularly inflammation from contact allergies. (Included in canine formula only.)

• Beta carotene (Vitamin A) –This valuable antioxidant synergizes with Vitamin C to support skin and immune system and mucous membrane health to protect the body against invading allergens.

• Blue green algae – Blue green algae, one of nature’s most basic foods, is an excellent source of chlorophyll, which acts as a detoxifier and blood cleanser, and sulfolipids, which resist viruses.  This ingredient contains numerous trace minerals and more protein than any other whole food; it strengthens the immune system, aids in wound healing (such as the lesions caused by excessive itching) and boosts the production of red blood cells. By supporting an animal’s overall health, blue green algae boosts the body’s resistance against potential allergens.

• Brewer’s yeast – A rich source of B complex vitamins, brewer’s yeast contains the trace mineral chromium and a high quality protein that supports skin health and aids in tissue formation and the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Healthy skin tissue reduces the incidence of and damage from contact allergies.

• Cat’s claw (una de gato) – This ancient herb from Peruvian rain forest contains bio-active compounds,  such as sterols, polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, oxindole alkaloids, quinovic acid, glycosides and triterpenes. It acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent and boosts the immune system, particularly white blood cell function. Its antioxidant properties strengthen the immune system against invasion by potential allergens. As an anti-inflammatory, cat’s claw reduces swelling from existing contact allergies.

• L-Methionine – The ability of this important amino acid to reduce histamine release makes it an essential component in the treatment of certain allergic reactions.

• Vitamin C – Vitamin C, a valuable antioxidant that fights infections, promotes cell growth, tissue repair and immune system health, maintains the structure of connective tissues and skin and strengthens the body against the effects of stress. Stress can wear an animal’s body down to the point where it can no longer resist invasion by allergens or harmful viruses and bacteria. The addition of Vitamin C to the diet keeps tissues, skin and the immune system strong enough to resist the effects of stress. Vitamin C also protects other anti-oxidants, like Vitamin E, and plays a vital role in overall immune system health.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age, and genetics. Many dogs and cats with arthritis have greatly benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® and NuJoint Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Approximately one in five dogs develops arthritis during their lifetime. Canine arthritis can be effectively managed through the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, proper diet, adequate exercise and high quality nutritional supplementation. Quality of life need not suffer; in fact, arthritic dogs are known to lead happy, active lives despite the presence of this progressive and debilitating disease.

Veterinary professionals classify arthritis as being either primary or secondary in nature:

• An example of primary arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis inflames and erodes the cartilage and bone of affected joints and may continue until the joints are completely fixated. This condition is immune mediated, but that is not to say that all immune mediated primary forms of arthritis are erosive. Non-erosive immune mediated arthritis, which may develop in connection with systemic lupus erythematosus, causes joint inflammation.

• Secondary forms of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, occur more often than primary arthritis. They may be caused by obesity, hip dysplasia, joint infections from invading microorganisms and insect bites (septic arthritis) or injury. Septic arthritis occurs in connection with a bacterial, viral or fungal infection or tick bites and usually involves only one joint, which may swell and grow painful and hot. The patient typically also develops a fever.

Symptoms

As with hip dysplasia, certain infections, injuries or immune disorders can affect the joints and result in the development of arthritis. Regardless of origin, canine arthritis typically manifests itself through decreased activity, disuse of a particular limb or limbs, visible difficulty standing or sitting comfortably, hesitation at climbing stairs or jumping, stiffness, weight gain and behavior changes. The dog may also become protective of the affected area.

Complications

Complications resulting from arthritis can often be a vicious cycle.  As joint cartilage breaks down, bones begin to rub against each other, leading to the degeneration of the bone itself.  Due to this, dogs become increasingly sedentary in order to avoid the pain of movement, and therefore become overweight.  This in turn puts increased stress and pressure upon damaged and aching joints.

Additionally, canine depression is a common complication that arises from arthritis as a result of being in a constant state of pain.  Dogs are unable to play, partake in usual behavior, or even enjoy their owner’s touch – all factors which contribute to depression.

NuJoint Plus and NuVet Plus

Dogs with weakened joints and an improperly functioning immune response are more susceptible to arthritis than are dogs that enjoy good joint and immune system health.

Providing a nutritional supplement like NuJoint®, which contains human-grade ingredients, natural and bio-digestible healing ingredients; can help target invading microorganisms and free radicals.  These ingredients will help to strengthen overall joint and immune system health to prevent the development, and treat the affects of existing arthritis.

Supporting your pet’s diet with a high quality food containing essential protein will add critical nutrients to their bodies.  Equally important is providing food, that is low on grains like corn and wheat as well as “meat by-products”. NuJoint® will help to prevent and alleviate arthritis by creating a strong immune system - it is also a complete formula which will help support all of your pet’s internal systems.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be particularly beneficial for your pet with arthritis:

• Cat’s claw (una de gato) – Cat’s claw is an ancient herb from the Peruvian rain forest that contains bio-active compounds, such as sterols, polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, oxindole alkaloids, quinovic acid, glycosides and triterpenes. It also acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent and boosts the immune system. Its antioxidant properties strengthen the immune system against insect and parasitic infections; its anti-inflammatory properties keep joint inflammation to a minimum.

• Evening primrose oil – This valuable ingredient contains high amounts of gamma-linolenic acid, which is one of the Omega-6 essential fatty acids that the body requires for the stimulation and maintenance of new skin and nerve cell growth. Studies have also shown that evening primrose oil relieves pain and inflammation; therefore, helping to alleviate the discomfort of arthritis.

• Pine bark – Pine bark contains proanthocyanidins, which, as anti-oxidants, are 20 times more effective than Vitamin C and 50 times more effective than Vitamin E. Pine bark possesses the ability to minimize any potential damage from cell oxidation by seeking out and destroying free radicals.

• Shark cartilage – Shark cartilage is a powerful, nontoxic anti-inflammatory agent that provides the additional benefit of stimulating and supporting the immune system against all manner of invasive microorganisms that can settle in the joints and encourage the development of septic arthritis. The shark cartilage in NuVet Plus® is obtained from non-endangered species, and is sourced from a renewable fishing industry off the coast of New Zealand.

NuJoint Plus® creates a frontline defense against arthritis by lubricating the joints and promoting cartilage repair. NuJoint Plus® contains the following four ingredients:

• Chondroitin – Chondroitin attracts and retains fluid within cartilage tissue to keep joints well lubricated, neutralizes the enzymes that attack cartilage and facilitates the absorption of glucosamine into joints that are already inflamed by arthritis.

• Glucosamine –Glucosamine contains natural building blocks that synthesize new cartilage tissue to lubricate and repair joints damaged by osteoarthritis.

• Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) – MSM introduces biologically active sulfur to affected joints, which greatly reduces cell rigidity in the soft tissues. Trapped fluid can then flow freely from these cells, resulting in reduced joint pressure, pain and inflammation.

• Vitamin C – Vitamin C, a valuable antioxidant that fights infections, promotes cell growth, tissue repair and immune system health. It also maintains the structure of connective tissues and skin, while strengthening the body against the effects of stress. Stress can wear an animal’s body down to the point where it can no longer resist invasion by the harmful fungi, viruses and bacteria that encourage the development of septic arthritis.

Many dogs and cats with cataracts have benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus ® to their diet.

Causes

Cataracts can be defined as any abnormality of the lens of an animal’s eye that interferes with the retina’s ability to receive light transmissions. These abnormalities block an animal’s vision and, under certain circumstances, lead to blindness. Cataracts generally fall under one of the following four developmental categories:

• Incipient -- very small;

• Immature -- affecting more of the lens than an incipient cataract, but not all of it;

• Mature -- affecting the entire lens; or

• Hypermature -- in which the lens begin to shrink and reabsorb.

A number of medical issues may encourage cataracts development. Lens-induced anterior uveitis, an eye inflammation that allows lens protein to leak into the eye fluid, is one of the major causes of cataracts. Other causes include trauma from a scratch or injury, and eye damage from excess blood glucose in diabetic animals.

Symptoms

Symptoms of cataracts typically include a change in behavior which indicates your dog is having difficulty seeing, such as bumping into things or excessive squinting.  A change in behavior, such as a lack of interest in exploring things or playing, may indicate that your dog is not interested in usual activities due to cataracts.  Lastly, upon closer inspection of the eye, cataracts are sometimes visible as either a milky white film in the eye or a bluish grey liquid if the cause is excess fluid buildup.  Occasionally, inflammation around the eye will also be present.

Complications:

The most common complication of cataracts is loss of vision.  As the cataract worsens, it eventually impairs all vision for the dog which can be both frightening and frustrating for them.  This may result in a dog that is unfriendly due to anxiety.  Owing to impaired or lost vision, dogs can develop balance issues and often bump into things. Be sure to keep your dog away from stairs or other areas where they could potentially injure themselves.

NuVet Plus

As some dogs are genetically predisposed to cataracts, it can be helpful to obtain documentation of your pet’s lineage to determine if your dog may have issues with cataracts in the future for hereditary reasons.  Other preventative measures can be taken by providing your dog with proper nutrition.

A balanced, antioxidant-rich diet provides the nutritional support that is vital to the prevention of bacterial infections and systemic diseases that lead to anterior uveitis. Providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids herbs and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system to help prevent the development of cataracts. They also support the recovery of eye tissue from injuries and trauma that could lead to cataract development.

Not only will NuVet Plus® promote vision health, but it is a complete formula that will help to support all of your pet’s internal systems.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be particularly beneficial for your pet with cataracts:

• Amino acids – Immune system stimulants that enhance the antioxidant activity of certain enzymes and strengthen and protect an animal’s body (including eye tissue) against invasion by the bacterial infections and systemic diseases that can lead to anterior uveitis and trigger the development of cataracts.

• Beta carotene (Vitamin A) – A powerful antioxidant that synergizes with Vitamin C and supports proper eye function and mucous membrane health to protect the body against the toxins and bacterial invasions that can lead to anterior uveitis and cataracts.

• Blue green algae – An excellent source of chlorophyll, which acts as a detoxifier and blood cleanser, and also contains sulfolipids, which resist viral infections.  This ingredient contains numerous trace minerals and more protein than any other whole food; it strengthens the immune system, aids in wound healing and boosts the production of red blood cells. These properties support quick recovery from eye trauma and injuries that could trigger cataract development.

• Brewer’s yeast – A rich source of B complex vitamins, brewer’s yeast contains the trace mineral chromium and a high quality protein that aids in tissue formation and the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Formation of healthy tissue is vitally important to a full recovery from eye trauma or injury.

• Cat’s claw (una de gato) – An ancient herb from Peruvian rain forest that contains bio-active compounds,  such as sterols, polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, oxindole alkaloids, quinovic acid, glycosides and triterpenes. It acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent and boosts the immune system. Its antioxidant properties strengthen the immune system against infections and systemic diseases; its anti-inflammatory properties keep eye tissue inflammation to a minimum in injured animals and promote a quick return to good vision health.

Iron – Protects the immune system from attack by the infections and systemic diseases that can cause eye injury or trauma or lead to the development of anterior uveitis and cataracts.

• Zinc – This trace mineral acts as an antioxidant and aids in wound healing and cell repair and growth.  Proper cell repair is essential when recovering from any infection, systemic disease, injury or trauma. Proper zinc levels also protect the body from diabetes, which, if left unregulated, can lead to the development of cataracts.

TOP

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age, and genetics. Many dogs and cats with diabetes have benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Diabetes mellitus develops when the beta cells in a dog or cat’s pancreas either fail to produce a sufficient amount of insulin or fail to respond to the normal insulin amounts necessary to balance and maintain proper glucose levels. In either case, blood glucose rises to unhealthy levels because the animal’s body cannot process the sugar into usable energy. In healthy bodies, blood sugar (glucose) enters the blood stream for conversion into energy; the presence of glucose in the blood signals the body to secrete enough insulin for the conversion. A healthy pancreas secretes just enough insulin to prevent blood glucose levels from raising too much (hyperglycemia) or lowering too much (hypoglycemia).

Symptoms

Blood sugar buildup leads to increased urination (polyuria) and increased thirst (polydipsia). Polyuria and polydipsia are usually two of the first symptoms that a pet caregiver notices. The animal’s body attempts to flush out excess sugar from the kidneys through increased urine production and replace lost fluids through increased thirst. Other common symptoms include increased appetite, lethargy and weight loss. Weight loss occurs even in diabetic pets with normal or increased appetites because their bodies cannot properly utilize glucose.

Complications

Eventually, diabetes affects every organ in the body. Pets can experience nerve damage in the limbs or organs. Diabetes can also lead to such problems as heart disease, kidney failure, and eye disease.

NuVet Plus

While there is no cure for diabetes once the disease has developed, rigorous attention to nutrition lessens the chances of diabetes-related complications by supporting hormonal balance and strengthening the immune system against invasion by viruses and bacteria.

Maintaining proper weight and providing good nutrition in the form of high quality food and nutritional supplements are great ways to help your pet decrease their chances of developing diabetes. NuVet Plus® contains vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids and other ingredients that are essential in helping the body protect itself against this complex disease and its complications.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be particularly beneficial for your pet with diabetes:

• Alfalfa – Alfalfa contains many of the vitamins, minerals, amino acids (especially tryptophan), digestive enzymes and protein that are necessary to a balanced diet, including Vitamins A, B-6, D, E, and K, beta-carotene, fiber and chlorophyll, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, potassium and several trace minerals. The alfalfa included in NuVet Plus® builds a strong and healthy body that easily resists attack by invading organisms, like bacterial and viral infections, that can weaken the immune system. Considered a very nutritious herb, alfalfa is used to increase appetite and help poor digestion which keeps the body nourished and blood glucose balanced to prevent seizures and other complications. Alfalfa also supports good pituitary gland function to regulate hormone activity. (Included in canine formula only.)

• Amino acids – These immune system stimulants enhance the antioxidant activity of certain enzymes and provide overall support to the body’s metabolism. Amino acids also support proper vitamin and mineral absorption to keep the body in balance. A healthy, balanced metabolism helps to keep hormones such as insulin and blood glucose at normal levels.

• Beta carotene (Vitamin A) – This valuable antioxidant synergizes with Vitamin C to support skin, immune system and mucous membrane health to protect the body against invading toxins and organisms. Beta carotene, a precursor to Vitamin A, nourishes and strengthens intestinal mucous membranes and supports the body’s general immune response. Perhaps Vitamin A’s greatest contribution to diabetic animals is its importance to eye health. Diabetes commonly causes blindness as it disrupts the metabolism.

• Blue green algae – Blue green algae, one of nature’s most basic foods, is an excellent source of chlorophyll, which acts as a detoxifier and blood cleanser, and contains sulfolipids, which resist viruses. This ingredient contains numerous trace minerals and more protein than any other whole food; it strengthens the immune system, aids in wound healing and boosts the production of red blood cells. By supporting an animal’s overall health, blue green algae has also been proven to strengthen the body overall and to maintain intestinal regularity for proper nutrient absorption. Simply put, blue green algae protects the body from metabolic disruptions and opportunistic invasion by infectious agents that are certain to weaken a diabetic animal. A strong, healthy body is much less likely to develop the hormonal imbalances that encourage the development of diabetes.

• Brewer’s yeast – A rich source of B complex vitamins, brewer’s yeast contains the trace mineral chromium and a high quality protein that aids in tissue formation and the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. B complex vitamins support proper gastrointestinal muscle tone and promote proper digestive system function to keep the body well nourished and blood glucose at proper levels.

• Chicken liver – Chicken liver is a rich source of the B complex vitamins that support overall health by fighting inflammation and boosting immunity, thus supporting proper nutrient absorption and appropriately balancing blood glucose levels. Chicken liver also combats liver disorders, including those directly related to diabetes. NuVet Plus® paddle-dries its chicken liver to more effectively retain Vitamin B complex, Vitamins A and C, and important omega fatty acids.

• Vitamin C – Vitamin C is a valuable antioxidant that fights infections, promotes cell growth and cell membrane health, tissue repair and immune system health, maintains the structure of connective tissues and skin and strengthens the body against the effects of stress. It also encourages the body to shed toxins. Stress can wear an animal’s body down to the point where it can no longer resist damage from invasion by harmful viruses and bacteria or oxidation damage at the cellular level that leads to diabetes. The addition of Vitamin C to the diet keeps tissues, skin and the immune system strong enough to resist the effects of stress. Vitamin C also protects other antioxidants, like Vitamin E; this important vitamin plays a vital role in immune system health.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age, and genetics. Many dogs and cats with hot spots have greatly benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Learn More About NuVet Plus And How It Can Help Hot Spots

Causes

Canine/feline hot spots (superficial pyoderma, or acute moist dermatitis), are defined by their characteristic  inflamed redness. The affected pet will excessively lick the area to relieve its discomfort, as well as relieve discomfort from reactions to underlying medical conditions - such as bacterial or fungal infections.

Vaccination injection sites, insect bites, and brush/branch scratches also trigger the itch and scratch response. This response leads to the development of hot spots, and the raw, red patches that develop on fur and skin from excessive itching and scratching. This often causes enough fur shedding to expose the skin to further infection.

Symptoms

Symptoms of hot spots are most apparent in your pet’s behavior.  Dogs and cats will typically target the infected area- itching, biting, licking and scratching aggressively, sometimes to the point of bleeding.  Your pet may react negatively if the area is touched. As they feel uncomfortable and aggravated, pets that are normally docile may become agitated and aggressive if suffering from hot spots. Hot spots tend to appear behind the ears, in the ear flaps, on the legs, flanks, feet and rear end. The easy-to-reach hot spots readily inflame from constant biting and licking.

Complications

If left untreated, hot spots and infection are likely to develop into a more serious ailment.  As dogs and cats continue to irritate the infected area by biting and licking, infections will worsen. The skin will often break, resulting in open sores, which are susceptible to additional infection and may emit odorous pus. Additionally, ingestion of any pus creates its own issues by providing an avenue for the infection to spread to the intestinal tract.

NuVet Plus

A dog or cat having a weakened immune response is more likely to develop hot spots than a dog or cat in good immune system health, since the immune system provides the first line of defense against infection.

Providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids herbs and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system to help prevent the development of hot spots and other issues.

Not only will NuVet Plus® help strengthen an animal’s skin and immune system against the bacterial and fungal infections that cause hot spots, but it is a complete formula that will support all your pet’s internal systems.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be beneficial for your pet with hot spots:

• Amino acids – Amino acids function as immune system stimulants that enhance the antioxidant activity of certain enzymes and strengthen and protect an animal’s skin against insect bites, injury and parasitic infections. L-Methionine, in particular, improves and strengthens the skin and aids in wound healing to prevent the development of the skin lesions that trigger the biting and licking behavior that causes hot spots.

• Beta carotene (Vitamin A) – Beta carotene, a precursor to Vitamin A and a powerful antioxidant, synergizes with Vitamin C and supports mucous membrane health to protect the body against the insect, bacterial and fungal invasions – and related itching response – that can lead to the development of hot spots.

• Blue green algae – This substance is an excellent source of chlorophyll -- which acts as a detoxifier and blood cleanser -- and sulfolipids, which resist viral infections.  This ingredient contains numerous trace minerals and more protein than any other whole food; it strengthens the immune system, aids in wound healing, boosts the production of red blood cells, and provides support to the brain and nervous systems. These properties make supplementation with blue green algae an ideal defense against insect and parasitic invasion and an effective agent for strengthening hypersensitive nerve sheaths against the itching response.

• Brewer’s yeast – Brewer’s yeast, a rich source of B complex vitamins, contains the trace mineral chromium and a high quality protein that aids in tissue formation and the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Vitamins B-1, B-9 and B-12, in particular, support the nervous system and strengthen nerve sheaths against the hypersensitive itching responses that can cause hot spots.

Its antioxidant properties strengthen the immune system against insect and parasitic infections; its anti-inflammatory properties keep skin tissue inflammation to a minimum in infected animals and, therefore, prevent hot spots from developing.

• Evening primrose oil – This valuable ingredient contains high amounts of gamma-linolenic acid, which is one of the Omega-6 essential fatty acids that the body requires for the stimulation and maintenance of new skin and nerve cell growth. Studies have also shown that evening primrose oil relieves pain and inflammation; therefore, this substance is essential to the prevention of hot spots that might result from skin inflammation and excessive itching.

• Vitamin C – Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that fights bacterial infections, promotes tissue repair and immune system health, maintains the structure of connective tissues and skin and strengthens the body against the effects of stress. Stress can wear an animal’s body down to the point where it cannot properly fight infections, infestations, systemic diseases or recover quickly from injury or trauma. The addition of Vitamin C to the diet keeps tissues, skin and the immune system strong enough to resist the effects of stress. Vitamin C also promotes the tissue cell growth necessary for an animal’s full and rapid recovery from injury and disease, including those to the skin and central nervous system.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age and genetics. Many dogs and cats with infections have benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Infections are as common an occurrence for pets as they are for humans. Opportunistic bacteria, fungi, viruses and other pathogens enter the system through contact with infected bodily secretions, via cuts and scratches on the surface of the skin and inhalation of spores or infected airborne droplets. They set up house in the blood stream or in vital internal organs and extract nutrients from the dog or cat’s system, making the pet grow steadily weaker.

Some common types of infections include:

• Flea infection – often brought on by a dog or cat itching and scratching the affected area.  Fleas are small parasites that attach themselves to your pet and reproduce.

• Yeast infection – caused when yeast and bad bacteria begin to multiply rapidly and weaken the immune system. Allergies, grain-based foods, prescription drugs, lawn and household chemicals and poisons can all contribute to yeast infections.

• Ear infection – most commonly caused by allergies, but also by bacterial and yeast infections, imbalanced diet or hormonal imbalances caused by Cushing’s Disease, Hypothyroidism and immune related disorders.

• Eye infection – most often caused by a bacterial or viral infection, these can result from debris particles trapped in a pet’s eyes, irritation from bugs or household cleaners, Lyme Disease, allergies or the spread of other infections.

• Bladder infection – occurs when a bacterial infection originating outside the bladder is able to enter the bladder through the urethra (a part of the urinary tract).

Symptoms

Your dog or cat’s behavior is often a telltale sign of an infection. Pets may whine, scratch, chew, or rub the affected area. Foul odor, redness, inflammation, pain, discharge or fluid buildup may occur around the site of infection. You may also note a decrease in your pet’s energy levels or other abnormal behavior.

Complications

If your dog or cat has a compromised immune system, the simplest of scratches can develop into more serious conditions. Breaks in the skin from chewing or itching can be subject to bacteria and further infection. If left untreated, ear infections can lead to a ruptured eardrum, problems with balance or even hearing loss. Pink Eye, Cherry Eye and even cataracts can result from an untreated eye infection. Bladder infections can eventually lead to bladder and/or kidney stones, as well as other conditions such as renal failure, prostate infection or septicemia (an infection of the bloodstream and/or other organs).

NuVet Plus

Immune system health unquestionably affects a dog or cat’s ability to resist infection of any type – a weakened system does not possess the strength to fend off attack by invading microorganisms. Therefore, what can animal caregivers do to maintain their pets’ optimum immune system health and prevent infections, some of which are highly contagious and potentially lethal?

Providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids herbs and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system to help prevent the development of infections. A healthy blood stream transports essential nutrients throughout the body and flushes out invading pathogens. Keeping your dog’s skin and coat clean and free of matted hair will help to prevent against infections and will repel irritants such as fleas and ticks.

Not only will NuVet Plus® fight infections by creating a strong immune system, it is also a very complete formula that will support all your pet’s internal functions.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be particularly beneficial for your pet’s infections:

• Amino acids – Function as immune system stimulants that enhance the antioxidant activity of certain enzymes, strengthening and protecting the skin against injury. In particular, L-Methionine improves and strengthens the skin and aids in wound healing to prevent the development of infection from harmful microorganisms. NuVet Plus® contains all the amino acids necessary for optimum health.

• Blue green algae – An excellent source of chlorophyll (which acts as a detoxifier and blood cleanser) and sulfolipids (which resist viral infections). Contains numerous trace minerals and more protein than any other whole food. Strengthens the immune system and provides support to the brain and nervous systems. Aids in wound healing and boosts the production of red blood cells, providing an ideal defense against all types of infection.

• Cat’s claw (una de gato) – An ancient herb from the Peruvian rain forest, which contains bio-active compounds such as sterols, polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, oxindole alkaloids, quinovic acid, glycosides and triterpenes. Boosts the immune system and acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Its antioxidant properties strengthen the immune system against parasitic infections, while the anti-inflammatory properties minimizes skin tissue inflammation (due to bites and injuries) and discourages the “itch and scratch” response that can weaken and expose the skin to infection.

• Evening primrose oil – Contains high amounts of gamma-linolenic acid, which is one of the Omega-6 essential fatty acids that the body requires for the stimulation and maintenance of new skin and nerve cell growth. Studies have also shown that evening primrose oil relieves pain and inflammation; therefore, this substance is essential to preventing “hot spots” (skin inflammation which might result from excessive itching, inviting infection from harmful microorganisms).

• Pine bark extract – Minimizes any potential damage from cell oxidation by seeking out and destroying free radicals (disease-causing agents), minimizing any potential damage from cell oxidation. Contains proanthocyanidins, which combat skin inflammation and act as extremely potent antioxidants.

• Shark cartilage – A powerful, non-toxic anti-inflammatory agent that provides the additional benefit of stimulating and supporting the immune system against all manner of infectious agents. Contains wound-healing properties that repair damage caused by contact allergens and prevent harmful microorganisms from infecting open wounds. The combination of collagen and glycosaminoglycan found in shark cartilage stimulates the cellular and hormonal components of the immune system, strengthening it against bacteria, viruses and fungi. The shark cartilage in NuVet Plus® is obtained from non-endangered species, and is sourced from a renewable fishing industry off the coast of New Zealand.

• Vitamin C – A valuable antioxidant that fights infections, promotes cell growth, tissue repair and immune system health, maintains the structure of connective tissues and skin and strengthens the body against the effects of stress. Stress can strain an animal’s body to the point where it can no longer withstand invasion by harmful microorganisms. Maintains tissues, skin and the immune system by providing resistance against the effects of stress. Also synergizes with other antioxidants (like Vitamin E) and plays a vital role in overall immune system health.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age and genetics. Many dogs and cats with itching and scratching have greatly benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Similar to humans, dogs and cats can develop cases of itching (pruritus) from a multitude of causes that are generally environmental, allergic, infectious or neurogenic in nature.

The term “itchy skin disease” commonly refers to:

• All forms of contact dermatitis (e.g., allergic, flea, fly bite, food allergy and canine/feline atopy from seasonal pollen);

• Parasite infestations (e.g., chiggers, fleas, damp hay itch, fly larvae, lice, maggots, scabies mange, ticks and walking dandruff mange); and

• Lick granuloma (acral pruritic dermatitis), which is a shiny red skin ulcer that develops from continuous wrist or ankle licking.

Vaccination injection sites, brush and branch scratches also trigger the itch and scratch response that cause canine hot spots (pyoderma, or acute moist dermatitis) and the raw, red patches that develop on fur and skin from excessive itching. Hot spots will appear in easy-to-reach spots behind the ears, in the ear flaps, on the legs, flanks, feet and rear end and quickly inflame from constant biting and licking.

Symptoms

Characteristics of itchy skin diseases typically are, constant scratching, skin biting and body rubbing against objects to relieve the itching sensation. Neurogenic pruritus, which is stimulated by nerve impulses, offers the greatest treatment challenge.

To determine if the ailment is caused by allergies or fleas, it may be helpful to search your pet’s coat for any visible parasites. Pay attention to a change in behavior that may result from a change in dog food or visiting a new environment, which may harbor a potential allergen.

Complications

Pets themselves are often the source of further complications.  Unlike humans, dogs and cats are not able to reason that continued scratching will cause more harm than good. Pets will often scratch in excess causing open sores which are susceptible to infection. If infection does occur, your dog is likely to spread the infection to other parts of the body, as bacteria will move from one spot to another on the paws and mouth. Pus ingestion from infected sites provides a convenient method for any infection to spread to the intestinal tract, creating its own set of treatment issues aside from those presented by the itchy skin disease itself.

NuVet Plus

Most itching and scratching can be prevented with regular grooming and proper nutrition. A dog with a weakened immune response is more likely to develop allergies and attract parasites than a dog with a strong immune system. It is the immune system after all, that provides the first line of defense against allergens and invading substances.

Providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids herbs and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system. They also help alleviate the symptoms and help to  decrease the incidence of reactions associated with existing allergies. A healthy blood stream transports essential nutrients throughout the body and flushes out toxins and invading substances. Amino acids, anti-oxidants, calcium and proteins help to detoxify  the blood stream, strengthen the skin and the immune system from insect and parasitic attack, support the cell repair that is vital to healthy skin and rebuild hypersensitive nerve coverings (sheaths).

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age, and genetics. Many dogs and cats with mange have benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Mange is a highly contagious parasitic skin disease that causes excessive itching in the infected animal. It takes one of the following three forms:

• Sarcoptic – otherwise known as scabies, this form of mange is caused by a mite that invades the skin of healthy young animals and leads to intense itching and skin lesions;

• Demodectic – this uncommon form of mange, caused by the demodex mite, causes hair loss, dermatitis and secondary skin infections that may lead to lesions; and

• Notoedric – a contagious disease caused by a mite similar to the parasite that causes sarcoptic mange.

Symptoms

The most obvious and troublesome symptoms of mange in dogs and cats include scratching, biting and digging of skin due to irritation from mite infestations.  Hair loss and redness often occur, in addition to oozing of the skin caused by mites clogging hair follicles.  Occasionally, a crusty texture on the skin can develop.   More severe symptoms include weight loss and foul odor.  Once your pet is rid of the mites, further irritation typically subsides.  However, infections caused by these symptoms are often treated by costly antibiotics and multiple trips to the veterinarian.

Complications

As with any issue, if left untreated mange can cause serious problems such as secondary infection and greater illness.  Constant scratching and biting can result in open wounds, which may become infected.  Hair loss, while mostly a cosmetic inconvenience, exposes the skin to potential damage due to biting and scratching.  Family members and friends can also be affected by mange.  Although mites cannot live on human skin, their bites may result in rash or infection.  This occurs particularly among those with compromised or weakened immune systems such as children or the elderly.

NuVet Plus

A dog or cat having a weakened immune response is more likely to develop mange than a dog or cat in good immune system health. The immune system provides the first line of defense against invading parasites.

Providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids herbs and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system to help prevent the development mange.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age and genetics. Many dogs and cats with seizures have greatly benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Seizures are frightening manifestations of erratic, abnormal bursts of electrical activity within the brain that usually involve one of the cerebral hemispheres, but may also spread to other cerebral regions, and typically last less than two minutes.
Numerous illnesses, injuries and nutritional deficiencies can potentially trigger seizures in a dog or cat. They include:

• Epilepsy – Epilepsy, a disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, and originates in the brain following either a trauma (acquired epilepsy) or as the result of a neurochemical defect (idiopathic epilepsy). Idiopathic epilepsy always exhibits symmetrical signs. Epilepsy-related seizures are commonly of the grand mal type, which are preceded by a period of altered behavior, or aura. Dogs experiencing an aura will become anxious and restless, cry out, seek seclusion or demand affection. Epilepsy of either type occurs more commonly in dogs than in cats.

• Narcolepsy-cataplexy – Narcolepsy (a state of excessive sleepiness) and cataplexy (sudden muscle paralysis and collapse) are disorders of an animal’s sleep mechanism that can occur either singly or together.

• Brain tumors and head injuries – Tumors in the cerebrum, brain injuries and brain lesions also cause seizures, most often focal motor or partial seizures. These seizures are limited to the part of the body that is controlled by the area of the brain affected by the illness or injury. Brain tumors occur more often in dogs than in cats. Swelling of the brain following injury compresses brain tissue and nerves to such a degree that electrical impulses are interrupted, causing seizures.

• Environmental toxins – These include animal baits (e.g., strychnine), antifreeze ethylene glycol), lead, insecticides, rat poisons and chocolate.

• Medical conditions – Hypertension, low blood sugar, low blood calcium, diabetes, thiamin deficiency (in cats) and thyroid, kidney and liver disorders (which allow toxins into the blood stream) can all lead to seizures.

• Viral and bacterial infections – Parasitic infections, such as the infection that causes canine distemper, can lead to the development of encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). As noted above, inflammation can compress the brain tissues and nerves and disrupt normal electrical activity.

• Genetics – Certain inherited disease conditions adversely affect proper central nervous system function, causing seizures.

Symptoms

Seizure signs include collapse with total leg rigidity, uncontrolled champing and chewing, foaming at the mouth, drooling, leg jerking, urination and defecation. The seizing animal will appear disoriented and confused for a period of time as he returns to normal. Some cats may experience psychomotor seizures, in which they exhibit atypical seizure behavior, such as sudden rage or hysteria, licking or chewing, and scratching or biting a person or another cat.

Complications

Due to the violent nature of seizures, dogs and cats are highly susceptible to inflicting damage to both themselves and their surroundings. As seizures are uncontrollable while they are occurring, pets will often bite their tongue or hurt themselves when thrashing. Any breakable items may be damaged if near a pet having a violent seizure.  Internal organs may also be injured during a seizure, making it important to monitor your dog or cat after a seizure to ensure that they are not exhibiting any extremely unusual symptoms from possible damage to the internal organs.

Post seizure, pets often feel compelled to recover from the seizure by eating or drinking excessively, and may appear disoriented. Be sure to carefully watch your pet to prevent them from inflicting any further harm. Some anti-seizure medications may also cause symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, excessive hunger or thirst, or upset stomach.

NuVet Plus

The first step in preventing seizures is to remove possible triggers, such as environmental toxins from the home. Researching a dog’s family history may also give insight as to whether or not your dog is predisposed to seizures.

Providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids herbs and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system to help keep the body in balance, and less likely to develop the medical conditions that can lead to seizures.

Supporting your pet’s diet with a high quality food containing essential protein will add critical nutrients to their bodies.  Equally important is providing food, that is low on grains like corn and wheat as well as “meat by-products”. Not only will NuVet Plus® strengthen your pet’s immune system against seizures, but it is a complete formula that will support all your pet’s internal systems.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be particularly beneficial for your pet with seizures:

• Brewer’s yeast – Brewer’s yeast, a rich source of B complex vitamins, contains the trace mineral chromium and a high quality protein that aids in tissue formation and the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Formation of healthy tissue is vitally important to a full recovery from trauma or injury and prevention of the conditions that lead to seizures.

Its antioxidant properties strengthen the immune system against infections and systemic diseases; its anti-inflammatory properties keep brain tissue inflammation to a minimum in injured animals and, therefore, prevent seizures from occurring.

• Chicken liver – Chicken liver contains the B-complex vitamins that are so essential to nervous system health and the preservation of nerve tissue and is also a rich source of Vitamins A, C and D and the minerals calcium, copper, phosphorous and iron.

• Evening primrose oil – This valuable ingredient contains high amounts of gamma-linolenic acid, which is one of the Omega-6 essential fatty acids that the body requires for the stimulation and maintenance of new cell growth. Studies have also shown that evening primrose oil relieves pain and inflammation; therefore, this substance is essential to the prevention of seizures that might result from brain inflammation.

• Oyster shell – Oyster shell is an excellent source of calcium. Calcium is essential to good nervous system health. Low blood calcium levels can trigger seizures; therefore, oyster shell and the other NuVet ingredients that contain calcium keep the body’s blood calcium at the proper level.

• Pine bark extract – This substance contains Proanthocyanidins, which inhibit the enzymes that cause inflammation and function as powerful anti-oxidants that cross the blood-brain barrier to prevent oxidation in brain and nerve tissue. Supplementation with pine bark extract supports and strengthens brain and nervous system health against the development of seizures.

• Potassium citrate – Potassium is necessary to proper nervous system function, particularly the transmission of nerve impulses. NuVet utilizes potassium citrate, a highly bio-available source of potassium, to support nervous system health and prevent seizures.

• Taurine (feline formula) – Taurine is an essential amino acid for cats that concentrates itself in the brain and heart. Taurine is crucial to proper central nervous system function, as it assists the transfer of potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium, at the cellular level, that generates nerve impulses. Proper nerve impulse activity prevents the development of seizures.

• Vitamin E – Vitamin E, another of the “stress vitamins” that functions in a fashion similar to Vitamin C, is crucial to central nervous system health. Vitamin E deficiencies can lead to neurological abnormalities; therefore, it is easy to see why Vitamin E is such a vital component to NuVet’s supplementation formula, for proper neurological function as well as for overall health.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age and genetics. Many dogs and cats with tear staining have benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

You may have noticed dark tear-like stains running alongside your dog or cat’s nose. They can be unsightly, particularly in a light-colored animal. However, more may be at stake than an unattractive marking; tears stains often signal the presence of yeast or bacterial infection. These microorganisms create the stains as they react with clear tears. Animal caregivers should familiarize themselves with tear stain causes in order to best cure the condition or prevent stains from developing.

Besides yeast or bacterial infections, tear staining may result from the common cold, a flea infestation around the eyes, teething, eye injury, blocked tear ducts, exposure to airborne toxins like smoke or chemical vapors, drinking large amounts of water with high mineral levels or simply poor nutrition.

Symptoms

Symptoms of tear staining include highly visible brown staining of the fur and a crust surrounding the eyes. Other behavioral symptoms include constant pawing or rubbing of the face and can be accompanied by redness and yellow/green discharge if the tear ducts have become infected due to blockage.  Yeast infections may occur and are characterized by redness and swelling around the eyes, itching, and a yellowish discharge that will have an unpleasant odor. Other symptoms are fleas which may block the tear ducts or teething particularly among puppies and kittens.

Complications

Large amounts of fur surrounding the eyes can scratch an animal’s corneas and cause tearing; under these circumstances pet caregivers should make a point to regularly trim the fur with safety scissors. Excessive tearing leads to consistently moist facial fur which can create an appealing environment for bacteria and yeast. This can lead to eye infections, which are extremely serious as they can lead to irreversible conditions such as blindness or cataracts.

NuVet Plus

Proper eye care and infection/tear stain prevention begin with proper nutrition. Regularly exercising and grooming your pet helps keep their bodies healthy and their coats clean.

Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be particularly beneficial for your pet with tear staining:

• Amino acids – These immune system stimulants provide overall support to the body’s metabolism. Amino acids combine in a myriad of ways to form hundreds of different proteins that, among other things, support and enhance immune system function. NuVet Plus® contains all the amino acids essential to good health, including glutathione, an antioxidant that protects against toxins, L-lysine, which helps to neutralize viruses, and L-methionine, a good source of sulfur, which inactivates free radicals. L-methionine is very useful for allergy cases because it reduces the amount of histamine in the body. As levels of toxic substances and allergens in an animal’s system increase, the body requires more L-methionine to combat the effects of that increase, such as excessive tearing.

• Beta carotene (Vitamin A) –This valuable antioxidant synergizes with Vitamin C to support skin and immune system and mucous membrane health to protect the body against invading microorganisms, allergens and inhaled toxins. Vitamin A is particularly important to eye health. Healthy eyes resist infection.

• Blue green algae – Blue green algae, one of nature’s most basic foods, is an excellent source of chlorophyll, which acts as a detoxifier and blood cleanser, and sulfolipids, which resist viruses.  This ingredient contains numerous trace minerals and more protein than any other whole food; it strengthens the immune system, aids in wound healing and boosts the production of red blood cells. By supporting an animal’s overall health, blue green algae boosts the body’s resistance against harmful microorganisms, toxins and allergens.

• Brewer’s yeast – A rich source of B complex vitamins, brewer’s yeast contains the trace mineral chromium and a high quality protein that supports skin health and aids in tissue formation and the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Assimilation of this substance into an animal’s system also creates an environment hostile to fleas, thus preventing infestations that can affect the eyes and cause excessive tearing. When an infestation is present around the eyes, flea feces discolor the tears and cause tear staining on the affected animal’s face.

• Chicken liver – Chicken liver is a rich source of the B complex vitamins that support overall health by fighting inflammation and boosting immunity, thus supporting proper nutrient absorption, minimizing damage from contact allergen reactions and strengthening the body against the development of tear-producing allergies in the first place. Like Vitamin C, it also reduces the deleterious effects of stress on the body. NuVet Plus® paddle-dries its chicken liver to more effectively retain Vitamin B complex, Vitamins A and C, and important omega fatty acids.

• Pine bark – Pine bark contains proanthocyanidins which, as anti-oxidants, are 20 times more effective than Vitamin C and 50 times more effective than Vitamin E. Pine bark possesses the ability to minimize any potential damage from cell oxidation by seeking out and destroying free radicals, and like L-methionine, reduces the release of histamine.

• Vitamin B complex (which contains folic acid) and Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) – These important vitamins support healthy vision.

As every dog and cat is different, results will vary based on a number of factors including environment, severity of the condition, age, and genetics. Many dogs and cats with tumors have benefited from the addition of NuVet Plus® to their diet.

Causes

Tumors develop either on or underneath the skin or inside the body when renegade cells take over surrounding healthy cells and grow unchecked into a separate mass. The cells’ interaction with an animal’s metabolism has the potential to interfere with the animal’s biological system functions as they slowly take over organ function and metastasize elsewhere in the body. Carcinogens, such as secondhand smoke, increase an animal’s chances of developing cancer by invading tissue cells, altering genes and chromosomes and disrupting normal orderly cell growth.

Symptoms

While superficial tumors tend to be easily visible to the naked eye, internal tumors are much more difficult to spot. Depending upon the location of the tumor, a wide variety of symptoms may appear and are most generally defined as abnormal behavior.  More common symptoms include loss of appetite and/or energy, sores that do not heal, discharge of fluids, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and problems with bowel movements.

Complications

Canine and feline tumors are typically harmless unless they are found to be cancerous or are located in a dangerous location. As tumors can grow large in size, complications can develop if they are located near or attached to organs or blocking important passages. It is extremely important to note the placement of a tumor when determining if it will cause any further complications.

NuVet Plus

The sight or touch of a suspicious mass on or underneath a beloved dog or cat’s skin can cause a pet owner great concern. We think the worst while hoping for the best. Happily, not all growths signal the presence of a life-threatening condition, but all growths should be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Many times surgical procedures are required for treating dangerous tumors.  However, providing a nutritional supplement which contains human-grade ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids herbs and more can help promote superior immune system health. NuVet Plus® contains those ingredients and can help strengthen the immune system to help prevent the development of tumor growth.

Supporting your pet’s diet with a high quality food containing essential protein will add critical nutrients to their bodies.  Equally important is that the food is low on grains like corn and wheat as well as “meat by-products”. Beneficial Ingredients

Listed below are a few of the NuVet Plus® ingredients that may be particularly beneficial for your pet with tumors:

• Beta carotene (Vitamin A) –This valuable antioxidant synergizes with Vitamin C to support skin, immune system and mucous membrane health to protect the body against invading toxins. Together, beta carotene and Vitamin A destroy carcinogens before they can interfere with cell development and trigger tumor development.

• Brewer’s yeast – a rich source of B complex vitamins, brewer’s yeast contains the trace mineral chromium and a high quality protein that aids in tissue formation and the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Healthy tissue prevents the development of tumors, as it resists invasion by carcinogens and other toxins that can interfere with proper cell development.

• Cat’s claw (una de gato) – an ancient herb from the Peruvian rain forest that contains bio-active compounds,  such as sterols, polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, oxindole alkaloids, quinovic acid, glycosides and triterpenes. It acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent and boosts the immune system, particularly white blood cell function. Its antioxidant properties strengthen the immune system against invasion by carcinogens,  toxins and the development of tumors.

• L-Methionine– This important amino acid contains sulfur, a free radical neutralizer that prevents cells from “going rogue,” attacking surrounding healthy cells and growing into tumors.

• Magnesium – Research shows that this trace mineral has successfully prevented certain cancers from developing.

• Papain – This substance helps the body to break down and convert protein into arginine; studies have shown that arginine inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells.

• Selenium –This trace mineral, a particularly powerful anti-oxidant when combined with Vitamin E, prevents lipid (fat) oxidation, free radical formation and the growth of certain tumors.

• Shark cartilage – Studies show that shark cartilage can shrink some cancerous tumors, especially those that fail to respond to conventional treatment as it contains a protein that interferes with development of the blood vessel networks that nourish tumors. Without nourishment from the blood stream, tumors die. The shark cartilage in NuVet Plus® is obtained from non-endangered species, and is sourced from a renewable fishing industry off the coast of New Zealand.

• Vitamin C – Vitamin C, a valuable antioxidant that fights infections, promotes cell growth, tissue repair and immune system health, maintains the structure of connective tissues and skin and strengthens the body against the effects of stress. Stress can wear an animal’s body down to the point where it can no longer resist damage from carcinogens and toxins or invasion by harmful viruses and bacteria. The addition of Vitamin C to the diet keeps tissues, skin and the immune system strong enough to resist the effects of stress. Vitamin C also protects other anti-oxidants like Vitamin E, protects brain and spinal cord cells from free radical damage and increases the body’s synthesis of interferon, a naturally-occurring anti-viral substance. This important vitamin plays a vital role in immune system health.
